Motilium Can No Longer Be Distributed Without A Prescription

All unexpired stock of domperidone-containing Motilium 10 and Motilim Instants products, which are used to relieve sickness and vomiting, have been recalled by manufacturers Holder McNeil Products Limited.

The noticed published by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) comes after a Europe-wide review of all domperidone products. 

After the review the UK Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) concluded that domperidone-containing medication could no longer be supplied without a prescription.

The medicines have been associated with a slight increase in the risk of serious cardiac effects, which means patients now need to undergo a medical to determine whether it is suitable for them.

Medical professionals have been advised to quarantine Motilium and Motilium Instants products. 

Patients who have purchased the products over the counter who wish to continue taking the medication have been advised to contact their doctor to undergo an assessment.
