Biography
I'm a qualified teacher and residential social worker with over 25 years experience of working with children and families both in Australia and in the UK. I have a special interest in neurological conditions and working with schools to support young people with SEND. I'm passionate about sleep and the important role it plays in a family’s physical and mental wellbeing. This lead to me becoming a qualified Sleep Practitioner in 2018.
What inspired you to get in to law?
After seeing the tangible benefits and unique support that Irwin Mitchell are able to offer to children and their families in distressing and complex circumstances. I was inspired to become part of an organisation that helps change things for the better.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
My role is multi-faceted and I love that every day is different. It’s great to have the opportunity to work very closely with colleagues in hospitals, schools and charities. However, I particularly enjoy developing trusted relationships with the children and families that I support.
I also find making a contribution to their rehabilitation is very rewarding. Stepping into the world of SEND can be a frightening experience for those affected and I am privileged to help families find their feet, develop confidence and feel more in control.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I particularly like the real sense of sharing the responsibility that the whole team demonstrates while supporting clients. Regardless of their job title or role in the organisation, the team live and breathe the ethos of a human touch. Irwin Mitchell is approachable and responsive and despite being a national organisation retains its local and regional focus.
What do you do away from the office?
When not at work I'm a busy Mum of three. Family life is usually noisy with dogs cats and chickens adding to the chaos. I'm a keen runner and enjoy endurance events such as 100km challenges and triathlon. I'm also a qualified swimming coach and love to be in open water. At quieter times, you'll find me reading recipe books or singing.
