At Irwin Mitchell, we are committed to improving access to the legal profession and supporting the development of future talent.
We currently offer work experience for students aged 16–18 through our long standing partnership with the PRIME programme.
PRIME provides structured work experience to young people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. At this time, we are not able to offer individual work experience placements or internships outside of our PRIME partnerships.
In 2026, applications will open for our pilot Career Insights Programme, a one-day introduction designed to help students develop an understanding of working in a law firm and explore the wide range of career paths available across the legal sector.

We want you to have a long career and we have an excellent history of retaining people after qualification as we identify qualified positions early to ensure there are the same number of roles as hires.
Working with experts in their field means you’ll receive intellectually demanding work alongside some high-profile cases. Supervisors want you to succeed and develop your skills so will push you to get involved at all stages of a case/deal.
While we are a large firm (approximately 3,000 employees) and roles are spread across 18 locations and across a possible 21 different departments, you'll be involved with a Partner or senior member of the team and get client contact where possible to be able to learn on the job.

You’ll have regular conversations with your supervisor, but there are lots of other colleagues looking out for you too.
Our Early Careers Managers will support you through your apprenticeship or training contract and you’ll have scheduled catch-ups with them. We also have an Early Careers Regional Representative in each office. They’re experienced in caring for apprentices and trainees, particularly at times when you may feel overwhelmed.
