Graduate Recruitment

"As part of the team supporting our lawyers, I know my contribution is valued and recognised. I feel empowered to do my job well."

Henry McCabe, Paralegal and future trainee solicitor

If you want to become a solicitor, our graduate recruitment programme is a great way to get started. We’re looking for people who have:

  • Tenacity
  • Attention to detail
  • Initiative
  • Empathy and interpersonal skills.

In return, you’ll find our culture supportive and we’ll help you grow whilst expanding your skills and knowledge. Last year we retained 96% of our trainees on qualification - that shows our commitment to your future with us. You don’t need to have studied law at university – many of our lawyers didn’t and we welcome applications from across the board.

Training Contracts

We offer training contracts in 11 offices throughout England across both our Business and Personal Legal Services divisions. They give you hands-on experience in three or four distinct areas of law, where you’ll be given real responsibility and practical experience throughout your training.

Legal Work Placements

We also offer a number of short-term placements each summer for those applying for a training contract with us. These are designed to give you a flavour for working at Irwin Mitchell and many of our placement students then go on to compete training contracts with us.

You’ll also have the chance to get involved with the community work that’s so important to us, whether that’s fundraising, volunteering, or doing pro bono legal work.

We encourage everyone to have a healthy work/life balance, and we offer flexible working across the firm for those that need it. We also have a Dress For Your Day policy, which means if you’re not seeing clients that day, there’s no need to suit up if you don’t want to.

In everything we do, we want to make everyone feel welcome. Our working groups across the company mean that everyone has a voice, no matter what their age, gender, or sexuality.
