Your compensation can help you financially for several reasons. It can help:

You have three years from the date of the incident to claim compensation. If you were not aware that your injuries were caused by a beauty treatment, you have three years from the date you became aware.

There are exceptions to this rule. If you’re claiming on behalf of someone under 18, the three-year time limit doesn’t start until they turn 18.

Routine beauty treatments often don’t need a trained medical professional to carry them out and salons might be unregulated, unlike in some other professions. This means mistakes can be more likely.

You might have been hurt because:

• Rules weren’t followed
• Your health information wasn’t checked
• Faulty equipment was used.
• Patch tests weren’t conducted.

Complications include:

• Dermal fillers: Rashes, swelling, itching, and bruising can occur. The filler can also move away from the intended area, and you can have allergic reactions, which may lead to anaphylaxis. Lumps can form under the skin and filler can also block blood vessels, resulting in the surrounding tissue dying.
• Botulinum toxin injections (including Botox): Your facial features around the injected area can become weak and may droop. You can also experience blurred or double vision and experience breathing difficulties.
• Chemical peels: Superficial peels, medium peels, and deep peels can cause similar complications including scarring and infection. Your skin might also appear lighter or darker than normal.
• Laser treatments: The skin can blister, sometimes causing scarring. Your skin colour can also change.
• Microdermabrasion: Swelling can result in the treated area and the skin can become red. You may also become more sensitive to the sun after the treatment.
• Eyelash extensions and tinting: Allergic reactions to chemicals used in eyelash glue and dye can cause rashes, swelling, and even damage to the eyes. A patch test should be conducted before your procedure to check you don’t have a reaction to chemicals in the products.

The patch test should be conducted at least 24 hours before any treatment that uses chemicals.
