Court of Protection
Newcastle
I am a Solicitor in our Court of Protection team based in Newcastle. I specialise in health and welfare matters under the Mental Capacity Act and am passionate about supporting some of the most vulnerable individuals in our society.
I am particularly interested and have extensive experience working with people with learning disabilities and ensuring they are able to participate as fully as possible in decisions that affect their lives. Building trusting relationships and adapting my communication style to meet each person's individual needs are aspects of my role that I find especially rewarding.
I primarily represent vulnerable adults in the Court of Protection who lack capacity to make decisions about their health and welfare. I am often instructed through the Official Solicitor, Relevant Person's Representatives and family members involved in Court of Protection proceedings. I am also an Accredited Legal Representative (ALR), which enables me to represent individuals directly in Court of Protection proceedings under the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
I regularly act in cases involving disputes about a person's capacity and best interests, including decisions relating to care arrangements, residence, contact with loved ones, medical treatment and safeguarding concerns.
Much of my work involves supporting people with learning disabilities. Building trusting relationships and adapting my communication style to meet each person's individual needs is a particularly important part of my role, helping to ensure their wishes and feelings are properly represented throughout proceedings.
