Robust legislation on tips finally on its way

There has been a long running battle since 2015 to ensure that hospitality staff receive all the money left to them as tips by customers. The Employment (Allocations of Tips) Bill has finally cleared the Commons and so hopefully we won't have much longer to wait before this becomes law. However, if you are not sure whether you are handling employees tips correctly don't wait for this new legislation to come into force, act now to ensure that your business will be compliant.

A private member's bill intended to ensure hospitality staff receive all the money left to them in tips by customers is closer to becoming law after clearing the Commons.

The Employment (Allocation of Tips) Bill would amend the Employment Rights Act 1996 to require employers to ensure that all tips, gratuities and service charges they receive or exercise control over must be paid to workers in full without deductions and by the end of the following month.”
