On 8 August 2007 a Puma Mk1 Helicopter, operated by the Royal Air Force (RAF), crashed at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire.  12 personnel were onboard including three Aircrew from RAF Benson. During the flight the pilot(s) appeared to lose control of the helicopter resulting in a crash landing in a field at Catterick Garrison resulting in three deaths and serious injuries to other personnel.
