Terrorism Related Injury Claims - More Information

To make a compensation claim for a terrorism-related injury, the first thing you need to do is get in touch with us for a free consultation. We'll discuss the circumstances of your injury and advise you on whether or not we think you can claim through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) – find out more about how this works.

Claiming through the CICA begins with an online application. After that your claim will follow the same basic steps:

  1. Investigation. The CICA investigate your claim and make checks to decide whether you are eligible for compensation. If the CICA decides you are not eligible, we can appeal that and have many years’ experience in successfully overturning eligibility decisions.
  2. Compensation. If the compensation amount offered by the CICA is too low, then we can appeal the amount, and we have a proven track record in helping people to recover a more significant settlement.
  3. Conclusion. If our original application to the CICA, or an appeal, is successful, then you'll be awarded compensation. If we agreed to handle your claim under a No Win No Fee arrangement, then you won't have to pay anything if your claim were unsuccessful.

If you have any questions about the claims process, please contact us today on 0800 056 4110 for your free initial consultation.

Many of our cases are funded with a No Win No Fee agreement. This means that there’s no financial risk to you when making a compensation claim.

If we think you're best supported by a No Win No Fee agreement, we'll explain the process clearly. You'll only have to pay anything if your claim is successful – with our legal costs coming out of your compensation settlement.

You generally have to make a compensation claim to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) within two years of the date of an injury.

There can be exceptions made to these time limits (such as if you were too ill to make a claim), but this is judged strictly on a case-by-case basis by the courts, so it's best to get in touch with us for some advice. Call today on 0800 056 4110 for a free consultation on your case, and we'll be happy to help.

How much compensation you receive after a terrorist incident will depend on a few factors related to your injury, its circumstances, and the support and rehabilitation you need.

The amount of compensation you could claim is based on:

  • The injury you have suffered
  • Care you might need now and in the future
  • Loss of earnings now and in the future (limited to Statutory Sick Pay rate)
  • Court of Protection fees (if you lack mental capacity to deal with your financial affairs)

For more information, call us on 0800 056 4110 and we'll be happy to discuss your options in a free initial consultation.

Our personal injury team deals with thousands of successful claims each year, and our award-winning lawyers are recognised as leaders in their fields.

Meet our team of terrorism-related injury solicitors.

Peter

“They kept us well informed and made us feel part of the process. They made me feel like they knew what they were doing. I had complete confidence in them.” Brian, London

Frequently Asked Questions

Who Can Claim Compensation Following A Terrorist Attack?

If you were injured or experienced psychological trauma as a result of a terrorist attack, then you may be able to claim compensation. Acts of terrorism generally include:

  • Hijacking
  • Bombing
  • Shootings
  • Kidnappings

You may also be able to claim if you were witness to a terrorist incident that has caused you psychological distress, particularly if the attack resulted in the injury or death of a friend, relative, child or partner.

You could also claim on behalf of someone else in the following circumstances:

  • f your child has been a victim of a terrorist attack, and is still under 18
  • If a relative lacks the mental capacity to make their own legal decisions
  • If a loved one has died as a result of a terrorist attack

If you’re unsure whether you’ll be able to make a claim or not, or have any questions about the claims process, contact us online or call us today on 0800 056 4110 for a free initial consultation about your case.

Are There Compensation Schemes For The Victims Of Terror Attacks?

Terrorist attacks on UK soil have thankfully been very rare in recent years when compared with parts of the rest of the world, and as such this means the main compensation scheme for survivors and victims is focused on helping those who were injured in attacks that took place abroad.

Since 2012, the government has operated the Victims of Overseas Terrorism Compensation Scheme, which supports the victims of terrorist attacks, as well as their families. The scheme doesn't necessarily cover all incidents of terrorism, but if you've been the victim of a terrorist attack abroad since 27 November 2012, you may be able to claim. Although you can make a claim through the scheme on your own, it can help to have legal representation that has experience with claiming and appealing any decisions you disagree with – find out more about claiming after a terrorist attack that took place abroad.

If you were injured in an attack in the UK, then you may be able to make a claim through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA). This is a government body set up to support blameless victims of violent crime in England, Wales and Scotland, including terrorist attacks.

For example, the scheme paid compensation to survivors, and families who lost a loved one, after the 7/7 London attacks, and could help you make a claim for compensation in this way too – find out more about claiming through the CICA.

If you have any questions about either of these schemes, or about our services, please don’t hesitate to get in touch for a free consultation with one of our lawyers. You can call us on 0800 056 4110, or contact us online and we’ll get back to you.
