Overseas Domestic Worker Visa
An Overseas Domestic Worker visa allows overseas employers to bring their domestic staff with them to the UK.
This visa enables household staff, such as nannies, personal carers, cleaners and chefs, to carry out their work duties for their employer whilst their employer is visiting the UK.
This is a short-term visa which can be granted for a maximum of six months. Both the worker and the overseas employer must not intend to stay in the UK for more than six months.
Key requirements
Employer
The employer must reside outside of the UK and must only intend to visit the UK – it is worth noting that the employer can be British, provided they are no longer living in the UK.
Applicant
The applicant must have been employed as a domestic worker and living with the employer or in a property that the employer uses as a home for themselves on a regular basis.
Employment
Terms and conditions of employment must adhere to UK guidelines, including National Minimum Wage requirements, and must be agreed in a prescribed written employment contract.
How to apply
The domestic worker will need to submit an application form and the relevant supporting documents to be considered by the UK Home Office. Applicants must apply from outside the UK and can apply up to three months before their intended date of travel.
