Private financial dispute resolution

Out of court processes are a good first port of call - they’re much quicker, cheaper, and less stressful than going to court.

A family lawyer can help you weigh up and efficiently run the processes of mediation, arbitration, collaborative support, and/or private financial dispute resolution (pFDR).

One person's hands gently hold and comfort another's hands.

Our Private FDR Service

If you’re going through a divorce or dissolution of a civil partnership, you may find you’re having to negotiate complex financial issues with your ex-partner. Financial disputes can be a major issue when a couple separates, and you might need some expert help to resolve the matter without going to Court.

We will work with you to give an informed indication of the likely outcome of your financial remedy claim. This can be arranged at a date and time that's convenient for you. The process is the same as a Financial Dispute Resolution hearing (FDR) at Court, but without the delay and cost of Court proceedings.

Speak to our expert

We have the largest private client team in the UK, our team of experts are here to provide discreet legal advice to support you and your family.

Is Private Financial Dispute Resolution (pFDR) right for me?

Divorce and dissolution of a civil partnership can leave you struggling to untangle finances.

If you have started mediation or exchanged financial information with your ex-partner, but are still struggling to reach a resolution, a pFDR service may be the answer.

It involves a neutral evaluation of the likely result of your case by an independent expert, helping you understand what you could gain or lose.

Court FDRs have a high level of success, but you may have to wait until a judge is available.

With private FDRs, you can choose your times and a dedicated judge, who will be with you throughout the day and will have read all the papers in your case.

Any agreement you make here is legally binding, so many couples settle their entire case at this stage. If an agreement can’t be reached, a private FDR judge can’t make an order - but they can advise on what will likely happen if you proceed to court.
