I am a Solicitor based in the Cambridge Office of Irwin Mitchell, specialising in medical negligence. I represent those who have suffered serious injury (both physical and psychological), or lost loved ones as a result of avoidable errors in their medical treatment.
I joined Irwin Mitchell as a Solicitor in January 2017. I have five years previous experience in Healthcare Regulation (working for the Nursing and Midwifery Council and General Dental Council) and have experience in defending medical negligence claims. My previous experience has given me a good insight into the standards required of medical professionals and a strategic approach to pursuing claims and challenging the counter-arguments advanced.
I deal with all aspects of medical negligence claims, including:
I run a broad range of cases as well as assisting senior solicitors within the team with their complex and high value cases.
With this type of work I am, inevitably, meeting people experiencing a very difficult period in their lives. My role allows me to assist my clients through this and take some of the burden from their shoulders. This in turn allows my clients to focus on rebuilding their lives and work towards a more positive future.
I am very proud to work for a firm that are leaders in the medical negligence field. Irwin Mitchell’s expertise in this area are second to none and they have a wealth of resource available, both internally and for clients. This allows us to provide a complete package of services to clients and to use our depth of knowledge to get the best results for clients.
There is also a very strong team ethic and supportive environment, which makes it a great place to work.
I am new to Cambridge, having grown up in Norwich and spent the last 6 years living and working in London. So, at present, I can be found exploring Cambridge in my spare time.
“This inquest has been very difficult for the entire family, particularly for Sheila’s widower, Terry. Terry remains understandably devastated by the loss of his wife and companion for 50 years.
“The hearing raised some serious issues regarding the care Sheila received, particularly with regards the adequacy of staff handovers and risk assessments completed at West Suffolk Hospital.
“We will continue to work with Terry and his family to ensure lessons can be learned and practices changed so that these avoidable events do not happen again.”
“Sheila’s family remain understandably devastated by their loss and continue to have a number of questions regarding the care that Sheila received and the events leading up to her fall.
“We hope that this inquest will go some way to providing answers and ensuring that, where possible, lessons can be learned from the treatment that she received.”
“Our clients understandably remain devastated by their loss and the inquest has raised many heart-breaking details concerning what Mrs Jocelyn went through prior to her death.
“The issues highlighted in this case should have been avoided through proper and comprehensive care, particularly considering Mrs Jocelyn had such complex needs. This truly is a tragic case which could have and should have been avoided; Mr Jocelyn has lost his wife of 56 years as a result of needless errors.
“It is absolutely vital that lessons are learnt and further training provided where necessary. Following the evidence heard at the Inquest, it is hoped that the Trust will continue to implement the recommendations made in their own Serious Incident Report. The safety of patients should always be the fundamental priority of the NHS and the terrible issues seen here should simply never be repeated in the future.”
“This is a truly heart-breaking case in which a couple has gone through something which simply no parent should have to face.
“Two years on Gaby and Matt are still working to come to terms with their loss. While admissions of liability have been made in the case, we are now focused on ensuring they get the justice they deserve regarding their daughter’s death.
“Baby Loss Awareness Week is an important time to reflect on and celebrate the lives of babies and our clients are hopeful that improvements will been seen in care after they have spoken out.”
