Legal Expert Describes Latest Change A 'Pivotal Moment For UK Business Immigration'
Law firm Irwin Mitchell is forecasting a sharp increase in enquiries from businesses and skilled professionals seeking UK immigration options, following the United States’ recent decision to impose a $100,000 fee on new H-1B visa applications.
The firm is already reporting a noticeable spike in calls within the first seven days since President Trump made the announcement and expects demand to grow significantly in the coming months.
The H-1B visa has long been a key route for skilled foreign workers entering the US, particularly in the technology sector. However, the Trump administration’s new policy—announced on 19 September and effective from 21 September—has created widespread uncertainty and prompted global companies to reconsider their hiring and expansion strategies.
Expert Opinion
“This could be a pivotal moment for UK business immigration. The Global Talent visa offers a real opportunity for the UK to attract highly skilled professionals and the companies that employ them.
“We’ve seen a clear rise in enquiries since the US announcement, and it’s evident that immigration policy and foreign investment go hand in hand. By making it easier for global talent to come here, the UK is also strengthening its position as a destination for international business.”
Mandeep Khroud, Head of Immigration at Irwin Mitchell
The UK’s Global Talent visa is designed for leaders and emerging leaders in fields such as science, technology, engineering, and the arts. Reports suggest the UK Government is considering reducing or removing application fees to further enhance its appeal.
