Potentially fatal infections have been linked with Sorin Stockert 3T Heater-Coolers used during heart surgery. If you have fallen ill following heart surgery or have received a warning letter from your hospital, you could be eligible for compensation.

Sorin Stockert 3T Heater-Coolers are used to keep patients at the right temperature during heart surgery and other complex surgical procedures.

It’s believed that some of these devices have become contaminated with bacteria, including Mycobacterium chimaera (M. chimaera), and that the devices are passing bacterial infections on to patients.

M. chimaera infections can be fatal. Symptoms include:

  • Fatigue
  • Night sweats
  • Weight loss
  • Joint/muscle pain
  • Unexplained fever.

The bacterium is very resistant to antibiotics and extra surgery may be needed to replace implants if they have been infected. It’s estimated that 47,000 patients may be at risk of infection following heart surgery using Sorin Stockert 3T Heater-Coolers.
