Former patients raised issues about Mr Hutchinson. These patients had undergone scoliosis correction, fusion surgery, and complex spinal surgery.
They reported that their operations were performed incorrectly or were more extensive than needed. This left them with more pain and longer recovery times.
Spire Bristol Hospital revoked Mr Hutchinson’s practising privileges in 2019 and began recalling patients as a precaution.
Mr Hutchinson is due to go before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal for failing to provide good clinical care to nine patients between 2014 and 2018. The Tribunal is due to consider 17 incidents when he used incorrect coding for surgery in the private sector.
Since 2022, Mr Hutchinson has had conditions on his right to practice medicine by the General Medical Council. This includes being observed by a supervisor.

Making a group claim lets you share legal expertise and costs through working together. This maximises the chances of getting compensation for your suffering.
Our lawyers have a great deal of experience in working on group claims. We’ve worked on high-profile group actions, including surgical negligence claims such as the misuse of surgical mesh by Mr Arun.
A group claim (or group action) is when several people affected by the same person/incident make their claims together.
In medical negligence cases, this can come when there are concerns about treatment given by a particular healthcare professional.
A group claim lets the court manage lots of similar claims together. This can avoid the need to have individual trials for each claim.
Each case in the group is investigated, and we’ll also identify any issues impacting the whole group. There are different ways to deal with group claims, and if you contact us, we’ll advise you on the best options.
You may have received a letter from the Spire Hospital in Bristol or the Southmead Hospital that your treatment is under investigation.
We could help you if Mr Hutchinson performed surgery on you or was your consultant, even if you haven’t had a letter.
Even if this was some time ago, it’s worth contacting us to see if you’re able to claim compensation.
