Special Education Needs (SEN)
Living with Special Educational Needs (SEN) can mean facing challenges every day before even getting to the school gates. Thankfully, we have SEN services in the UK. But if those services fail, it can be intimidating to try and challenge them. An experienced lawyer who understands this area of the law can help.

What help can I get for a child or young person with SEN?
There are lots of ways you can feel unsupported – and lots of things you can seek support for, including:
- Disability discrimination
- Difficulty getting a diagnosis
- Getting suitable school transport
- Annual reviews of a child’s SEN Needs
- Appeals to the SEN Tribunal (SENDIST)
- Difficulties accessing a Home Education package
- Your legal rights to obtain a EHCP/rights to an appeal
- Appropriate education or support in schools or colleges
- Obtaining or challenging the contents of Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans
- Securing statutory funding for independent school placements (including residential schools and colleges, therapeutic provision and 1:1 support).
We are experts in the changes to SEN law introduced with the Children and Families Act 2014, and were involved in the first judicial review of local authority duties under the Act. We also have a range of factsheets and template letters for your use, free of charge.
If none of the above apply but you are having difficulty getting education or recognition of a child’s needs, speak to us to understand whether we can help.
