Confiscation & Asset Seizure
If you have been convicted, the police or courts might stop you accessing your assets – meaning they could freeze bank accounts, cards, and property.
This can be to stop you hiding them, or because they believe you are profiting from a crime.
Family members such as partners and children could also be affected by a confiscation order, as could business partners and colleagues.

Asset Seizure Proceedings
Confiscation orders can leave you completely unable to pay for living costs or people depending on you. It’s often one of the most distressing parts of a conviction.
If you are accused of making money from a crime, the police will try to work out how much you made illegally, and how much you should “pay back”. The idea is to stop you “benefiting” from criminal activity.
If delays or mistakes are made that leave you unable to pay, consequences can be very serious. The worst-case scenario is a prison sentence (or extended sentence) for not paying the order.
Your sentence would depend on what you owe – but even owing £200 can result in a week of prison time.
Handling the process with urgency and expertise – not panic – can get you to a brighter outcome.
