Shea Kelly

Solicitor

Biography

I am a solicitor specialising in education law, with a focus on supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, and their families. I represent clients in SEND Tribunal appeals, including refusal to assess, refusal to issue, placement disputes, and challenges to the contents of EHCPs.

I also act in judicial review proceedings, particularly where local authorities fail to secure suitable education or deliver required provision. I assist with EHCP applications, guiding families through each stage of the process.

What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?

Working alongside like-minded people who are all committed to achieving the best outcomes for our clients.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?

The most rewarding aspect of my role is supporting families, children, and young people to be heard and to access the support they need. It is so rewarding to play a very small role in helping children and young people unlock their full potential, by ensuring they have the right level of support and type of education.

What inspired you to get into law?

I was drawn to a career in law because I have always found injustice deeply unsettling. I knew I wanted to play a role in changing that. For me, the law is a way to stand alongside those individuals and families, to amplify their voices, and to challenge decisions that are wrong.

What do you do away from the office?

I enjoy going on walks, the theatre, and being with friends and family.
