Biography
Working as an Apprentice Paralegal, my role pairs both work and study, taking what I have learnt from my seminars and embedding this in the work I complete for my team the following day.
I specialise in Immigration Law within the High Net Worth and International department. I find this to be a particularly accomplishing area of law to work in, by being able to assist others on their avenues to legal residency in the UK. Guiding clients through the often complex and document-intensive process of securing legal residency in the UK is a responsibility that I am committed to, aiding access for others to living/working in the UK. These are privileges that I am aware of and may take for granted as a British citizen.
In the effort to broaden access to professional advice in this area of law, I also regularly assist in the carrying out of Pro Bono opportunities presented to the firm, most recently of which is partnering with a university law clinic.
These responsibilities, combined with the financial and administrative tasks that I take charge of within the team, will curate me into the well-rounded solicitor I aspire to be.
Key Highlights
While relatively early in my legal career, I have already undertaken applications of numerous visa types, including but not limited to:
-
- T2 Skilled Worker visas
- Family (Spouse) visas
- Investor visa
- Indefinite Leave to Remain/Settlement applications
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
Irwin Mitchell’s team and firm structure is very supportive and inclusive, ensuring efficient work is carried out for our colleagues and clients, without the overbearing nature and constraints brought by micro-management. The trust and responsibility I hold is a credit to my team bestowing it upon me, which excels my growth in the department as a result.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
I treasure the success of our clients gaining permission to stay in the UK, whatever the reason; re-uniting with family, pursuing a long-awaited career opportunity, or seeking refuge from conflict in their Home Country. Seeing an approved decision on a visa from the Home Office, or the overturning of a suspension/revocation of a company’s sponsor licence gives my role a sense of fulfilment, particularly in the ever-evolving immigration landscape.
What inspired you to get into law?
My passion for law was inspired by my father, a legal professional whose own journey into the working world consisted of balancing work and study, challenging me to seek the same for myself.
I also studied law at university, and it was this that cemented the legal profession as the one that I could envisage my future in.
What do you do away from the office?
Beyond my legal work, I enjoy following motorsports, and cricket, while also partaking in a weekly 5-a-side football team with the firm. I also love to travel and spend time with my Alsatian, going on regular runs with her to maintain fitness and a proactive mindset.
