Biography
I have specialised in family law for over 10 years.
I enjoy all aspects of family law work and have a particular interest in helping people to resolve their financial issues upon separation. I have helped many clients to achieve a financial settlement either through negotiation, advice during mediation or a court application, whether this be as a result of separation of divorce.
I have acted for many parents in cases which involve their children, from general applications that concern who a child should live with and spend time with, right through to more complex cases where there are significant issues such as domestic violence and risk of harm to the children involved. Alongside many of these more complex cases, I have also advised my clients in order to obtain orders for their protection from harm.
I believe that it is important for my clients to have confidence in the advice that I give and I am therefore a member of Resolution. It is important to resolve a client's case as amicably as possible, especially where children are involved, as the outcome of a financial settlement/divorce/separation/children act order, will continue long after my involvement has finished.
I treat every client as an individual and always make sure that I tailor my advice and approach to suit my client's needs.
What inspired you to get into law?
I had a strong belief that I wanted to help people. Law seemed suited to my character.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
Seeing my clients transform as their case progresses. Clients are often very vulnerable when they first meet me as separations are tough. In most situations, by the end of their case, my clients have transformed into a different person and are enjoying their life again.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I enjoy the vast wealth of experience and resources that are on offer at Irwin Mitchell.
What do you do away from the office?
I have two very young children so my time is spent trying to keep up with them!

"Emma has been incredible through this past year. She explained every part of the process clearly, guided me through every step and managed my expectations perfectly. Every single piece of advice she has given me over the past year has helped my case. Even when I didn't want to hear it she advised on what was the best way forward for my case and helped me to understand why.
She helped me successfully win my case and I could not have made it through the past year without her advice, guidance and support. I imagine I haven't been the easiest client as I've been quite emotional, but Emma never made me feel silly or irrational. She prepared me so well for my final hearing that I felt completely confident on the day. Hopefully, I will not be needing Emma's services again but I would happily recommend her to anyone, she is excellent at what she does." -5* Trustpilot review
