Heavyweights from the worlds of politics and law have joined forces to analyse the tactics being deployed by political parties in the Election battle and what businesses can learn from these strategies.
Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth has teamed up with Hanbury Strategy to publish ‘Negotiation Strategies in the Real World of Politics’, which examines the world of political campaigning and how the parties will promote their messages for the June 8 vote.
The report finds that the essentials for successful campaigning are:
- Good use of data, using clearly defined research to build an understanding of key voters
- Keeping it simple and focused to ensure voters hear and retain core messages
- Emphasising the risks of the alternative to stimulate voter emotion
- Reaching out to new voters through social media and online strategies
It concludes that businesses could learn from the strategies that are currently on display, both in the election campaign at home and in the Brexit negotiation battleground of Europe.
Hanbury Strategy was launched by former government advisers Ameet Gill OBE and Paul Stephenson. Ameet and Paul had hugely influential roles on opposite sides of the EU referendum debate but have since united to pool their expertise on political insight.
As keynote speakers at a recent Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth event held in London’s Finsbury Square, the duo shed light on their Brexit battles and how they see the June election campaign playing out.
James Paton-Philip, a corporate law partner at Irwin Mitchell who works with Hanbury Strategy, said that the report provided fascinating insights into British political strategy. He added:
“We are living through an unprecedented time in British politics and are delighted to have teamed up with such a unique organisation to produce this report.”
The report is illustrative of how successful negotiation and strategies in politics can also be adopted by businesses in taking their organisations to the next level.
