Twenty people ask legal experts to investigate following stays at five-star TUI Blue Sensatori Coral Sea

A 12-year-old girl from Bradford struck down with salmonella following a stay at a five-star resort is among a group of holidaymakers to ask lawyers to investigate their illnesses.
The youngster is one of a number of guests who suffered severe gastric symptoms while holidaying at the TUI Blue Sensatori Coral Sea, near Sharm El-Sheikh. She later tested positive for salmonella – a serious bacterial infection that can cause severe diarrhoea, fever and stomach cramps, and potential long-term health complications.
A group of 20 holidaymakers have now instructed international serious injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate their illnesses. The holidays, between June and August this year, costing up to ÂŁ8,000 were booked through tour operator TUI.
Jennifer Hodgson, the specialist international serious injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell representing those affected said:
“The first-hand accounts we’ve heard from those who have become unwell are deeply concerning. No one should return from a family holiday needing hospital treatment, facing ongoing symptoms and left with unanswered questions.
“The effects of gastric illness are serious and should never been downplayed. Those impacted can go on to develop long-term health issues and in some cases salmonella, can even prove fatal.
“While there’s nothing we can do to change what they’ve all been through, we’re determined to provide those affected with the answers they deserve. If any issues are identified, it’s vital that measures are put in place to help prevent others from falling ill in the future.”
The holidaymakers have also raised concerns around the hygiene of the resort, including the food service and facilities. Worryingly, this is not the first time the firm have acted for holidaymakers returning from this resort suffering from serious illness, representing others who stayed here in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Schoolgirl Evie Hopkin was in Egypt with her family, including her mum Debbie, 47, dad James, 47, and brother Charlie, 15, between 17 and 31 August.
During the early hours of 22 August, she began suffering from stomach cramps, diarrhoea, and a fever. She later began to vomit.
Evie attended the hotel’s medical clinic twice, where she was given antibiotics and intravenous fluids due to dehydration. She remained unwell for the rest of the holiday and was very lethargic.
Following their return home Evie visited her GP with tests now confirming a diagnosis of salmonella.
Her mum, Debbie, a legal secretary, said: “It was awful seeing Evie so poorly and knowing there was nothing I could do to make her better.
“At first we hoped it was something minor and it would pass, but then we started hearing about other people who had been ill. When Evie was receiving treatment at the clinic, there were other guests hooked up to IV drips and that’s when we realised how serious it was.
“What was meant to be a dream holiday turned into a complete nightmare. We tried to make the most of the last few days but it was unfortunately ruined. Then to hear that Evie had salmonella was shocking.
"I can't change what happened or go back and make a different decision about our holiday destination, but what we can do now is try to understand how this happened and get some answers for Evie, it’s the least she deserves."
