Specialist lawyers helping families understand their legal options and seek accountability

Medical negligence lawyers at Irwin Mitchell are supporting more than 20 patients affected by suspended orthopaedic surgeon Kuldeep Stohr’s care at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, as publication of an external review into her practice faces a further delay.

Kuldeep Stohr review: When will patients receive the report?

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) has confirmed that the external clinical review, chaired by Andrew Kennedy KC, is now expected to be provided to the Trust at the end of 2026.

The final report is expected to be shared with affected patients and families in early 2027, before being published.

The Trust has apologised for the further delay, recognising that patients and families have already faced a lengthy wait. It said the external clinical review remained ongoing, with final individual reviews and discussions with patients and families still to be completed.

Legal support for families affected by Kuldeep Stohr’s care

Irwin Mitchell’s specialist medical negligence lawyers are helping families affected by Kuldeep Stohr’s care understand their legal options and seek accountability. Many of the firm’s clients have now been informed that they suffered harm, including severe harm in some cases.

Tim Annett, an expert medical negligence group action lawyer at Irwin Mitchell representing affected patients, said:

“This delay will be deeply frustrating for patients and families who have already waited so long to understand what happened.

“Most of those we represent were very young children when they were operated on by Stohr. Many have since been told through their individual clinical reviews that they suffered harm, including severe harm in some cases.

“For some parents, even getting that recognition has been difficult. They have described having to challenge inaccurate information in their children’s reviews or ask for harm initially graded as low to be reconsidered. They have had to do this while caring for children left with significant and life-changing issues.

“These families are living with the consequences every day. Waiting longer for the report doesn’t change the harm already identified, but it does leave them waiting for the full picture as to how these issues, affecting hundreds of patients, were seemingly allowed to manifest for so long.

“We understand that the review needs to be thorough. However, families also need a clear explanation of why it’s taking longer and when they can expect to receive its findings.

“We’re supporting families to understand their legal options and seek accountability for what they have been through.

“Above all, families need to know what happened, why it happened and what must change to help prevent other children and patients from suffering similar harm.”

Kuldeep Stohr and Addenbrooke’s Hospital background

CUH commissioned the wider external clinical review into Kuldeep Stohr’s practice in February 2025. The review initially covered nearly 700 planned surgical operations as well as 50 paediatric and 50 adult trauma cases, with its scope subsequently extended.

Earlier scrutiny identified treatment outcomes for a small number of patients which were below the standards expected. Kuldeep Stohr’s clinical practice was restricted as a precautionary measure in 2024 and she was subsequently suspended.

The Trust said in its latest update that once the remaining clinical reviews and discussions with patients and families are complete, Andrew Kennedy KC will prepare his report. Specific dates for families receiving the report and its subsequent publication are expected after the Trust receives the draft.
