A team of 40 colleagues from law firm Irwin Mitchell has raised more than £64,000 for the homelessness charity Crisis by completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge.
The fundraising challenge is the latest event in the law firm’s long-term partnership with the charity, through which Irwin Mitchell is aiming to raise £250,000 this year - enough that Crisis could provide initial advice and support to 830 people as part of their ambitions to end homelessness.
The Irwin Mitchell team led by Group CEO Craig Marshall, together with a handful of colleagues from Crisis including CEO Matt Downie, took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks, a gruelling 24-mile hike across Yorkshire Dales National Park usually completed in under 12 hours
The team climbed up Whernside (736m), Ingleborough (723m) and finally Pen-y-ghent (694m) with 1,585m of total ascent. Weather conditions were good with the team lucky to avoid the August heatwaves.
Fundraising by Irwin Mitchell team-mates across the country was match funded by the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation, bringing the total to just over £64,000.
Craig Marshall, Group Chief Executive Officer at Irwin Mitchell said:
“Taking on a 24-mile challenge is no small feat. It required commitment, determination and teamwork, and throughout the day everyone demonstrated all of those qualities in abundance. It was a privilege to walk alongside so many colleagues from across the business and see the support, encouragement and camaraderie that defined the event.
“We’ve set ourselves a big target in terms of fundraising for the year because we want to make sure that our efforts can make a real tangible difference to homelessness in the UK.
“Being a responsible business is part of the culture of Irwin Mitchell and it’s no surprise that we’ve had so many colleagues wanting to get involved in events and providing skills-based volunteering to help Crisis carry out their work. This challenge was a brilliant example of what can be achieved when our colleagues come together behind a shared purpose.”
Matt Downie, CEO of Crisis said:
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support from Irwin Mitchell, not just the funds that they are raising for us, but also to their amazing colleagues for the time, effort and support they are putting into our partnership.
“The Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge was an extremely tough endurance event, there were many times where I could easily have given up without the support of colleagues around me. I’m so proud of the team from both Crisis and Irwin Mitchell for completing the 24 miles and raising awareness of our work to end homelessness.”
