Law Firm Praises Bravery Of Patients Who Gave Evidence To Convict Family Doctor
Specialist abuse lawyers at Irwin Mitchell have welcomed the jail sentence handed down to a GP who sexually assaulted patients.
Jaswant Rathore abused his position of trust at Castle Meadows Surgery in Dudley to carry out unnecessary massages on four women.
The 60-year-old, of Wall Heath, Dudley, has received a 12 year jail term. He has also been placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
Speaking after the case, Christopher Hurlston, expert abuse lawyer at Irwin Mitchell’s Birmingham office, praised the bravery of the women who reported the crimes to police.
Expert Opinion
A GP is a position of trust, however, at Irwin Mitchell we sadly often see first-hand the impact that such crimes can have on people.
“The bravery the women showed in reporting Rathore to police and then giving evidence against him during his trial is commendable.
“We hope that the sentence handed down to Rathore acts as a warning that even people in a position of trust are not above the law.
“It is important that anyone who was abused by Rathore can access the specialist professional support they require to help them rebuild their lives.” Chris Hurlston - Senior Associate Solicitor
Rathore, a married father-of-five, carried out the assaults at the surgery between 2008 and 2015.
Following a seven week trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court he was convicted of a total of 10 sexual assaults.
He was cleared of a further eight allegations relating to four other patients.
