Call For Thorough Investigation Into Reported Problems At Tenerife Resort
Travel lawyers who specialise in helping holidaymakers who have suffered illness at resorts across the world to gain justice regarding such problems have revealed their concerns regarding new reports of an outbreak at First Choice’s Holiday Village in Tenerife.
According to The Sun newspaper, dozens of British holidaymakers staying at the resort are thought to have developed gastric illness symptoms including stomach cramps, diarrhoea and sickness, with some being diagnosed with Cryptosporidium.
First Choice has told the newspaper that it was aware of a small number of cases and checks were being undertaken.
Following the reports, specialist travel lawyers at Irwin Mitchell have urged the tour operator to ensure that a thorough investigation is undertaken and steps are taken to reduce the risk of others being affected by the reported issues.
Expert Opinion
“We are very concerned to hear reports of illness at the Holiday Village and it is vital that, if not already done so, action is taken to tackle the issues and provide reassurances that holidaymakers are protected from potential risks. It is not the first time that we have represented holidaymakers at this particular resort as we have successfully concluded claims for holidaymakers returning from this resort in 2011 and 2012.

“Our work representing thousands of victims of holiday illness every year mean we understand the huge consequences that such problems can have on those affected. As well as affecting their breaks, it can go on to impact on their lives back in the UK – forcing them to take time off work as they attempt to recover.

“Cryptosporidium in particular can have a significant lasting effect on victims, often leading them to develop longer term health conditions.

“With this in mind, it is vital every possible step is taken to understand the source of these illnesses in order to ensure that – where possible – lessons can ultimately be learned which will improve safety.” Jatinder Paul - Partner
