Leeds Law Firm Sponsors Two Kits For Powerchair Football Teams
Irwin Mitchell has shown their support to a local Leeds Powerchair Football Club by donating £500 for new kit for their aspiring footballers.
Leeds Powerchair Football Club was set up 18 months ago by Steve Curtis whose 8-year-old daughter Ruby suffers from cerebral palsy and uses a powerchair to get around. This year is the inaugural year of the Yorkshire Powerchair Football League and Cup, where teams compete for these trophies. The fourth round of League matches took place this weekend at The Edge Sports Centre, Leeds University.
Steve was inspired to start the club after seeing the enjoyment his daughter Ruby and other disabled powerchair users got from taking part in the sport following the amazing success of the Paralympics.
Research across West Yorkshire shows there are very limited sporting activities and opportunities for physically disabled people, in particular powerchair users. With the advent of Leeds Powerchair Football Club, and other clubs in the region, every powerchair user across West Yorkshire has the opportunity to access a team sport, with all of the associated benefits.
Expert Opinion
We are delighted to be able to offer our help and support in any way we can to Leeds Powerchair Football Club and the two teams have chosen a fantastic new kit for them to play in.
“The Powerchair Football League is very close to our hearts as we have worked to represent Steve’s daughter, Ruby over the years. Ruby’s family have shown inspirational devotion and support to her in order to help her achieve the best quality of life possible and gain her independence.”

Steve Curtis, Founder, Chairperson and Leeds Stripes Coach at Leeds Powerchair Football Club, said: “We are very grateful to Irwin Mitchell for their support of our club. We now have two teams in Leeds PFC, another club in Leeds plus the club in Bradford and we hope to continue to increase the number of teams across Yorkshire.
“The shirts are particularly special to the players as the designs and colour scheme was chosen by them. As we are from Leeds, we wanted to incorporate the Leeds United colours and we now have two brilliant new kits, one white and one with blue and yellow stripes.
“It’s great to see all of our players enjoying playing football so much, it has such as positive effect on their confidence and self esteem and meeting some new friends along the way.”
