Expert Backs Calls To Tackle Postcode Lottery
A clinical negligence expert at Irwin Mitchell has welcomed a new report which calls for improvements to be made to the care on offer to musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) patients.
The publication from charity Arthritis Care has suggested that there is a lack of consistency in the treatment and management of such conditions across England and Wales, with a postcode lottery emerging in terms of the budget for such work.
It has been recommended that a nationwide strategy is introduced that will provide a stronger focus on what is expected when it comes to the proper treatment of MSDs.
The suggestion has been welcomed by clinical negligence specialists at Irwin Mitchell, who help a number of people who have suffered as a result of errors and substandard care in the NHS.
Lisa Jordan, a Partner and medical law expert at the law firm’s Birmingham office, said: “We see far too many cases across a range of areas where patients are subjected to a postcode lottery when it comes to the standard of care they receive.
“It is concerning to see suggestions that this is occurring when it comes to MSD patients, particularly considering the terrible impact such problems can have on sufferers.
“We hope that the NHS seriously examines the findings of this report and consider how they can ensure all patients get the best possible care.”
