If you are making a claim for yourself, you have three years from the date of the incorrect prescription to begin the process.

If you are claiming on behalf of a child, the three-year rule doesn’t apply until they turn 18. If you are claiming on behalf of someone who lacks the mental capacity to make their own claim, there are no time limits in place.

• Ask the pharmacist to confirm how and when you should take the medicine.
• Attend check-ups with your doctor if you are taking medicine on a repeat prescription.
• Make sure your pharmacist knows if you are taking any medication besides the one prescribed to you.
• Check it’s your name on the medication sticker/box. If you have more than one box of medication, do this for each of them.
• Make sure the medicine you have been given by the pharmacist matches the name and dose stated on your prescription.
