On 17 November 2013 a Boeing 737-53A operated by Tatarstan Airlines flying from Moskva-Domodedovo Airport to Kazan Airport crashed during final approach.  44 passengers and six crew lost their lives in this tragic accident.

Investigations as to the cause of this accident are ongoing by Russia’s Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK). On 22 Nov 2013 Great Britain's AAIB announced they had joined the investigation as well and have dispatched investigators to Kazan.
