Same Sex Divorce Lawyers
If your relationship has broken down, our same sex divorce lawyers can help you move forward with your life.
We can help you whether you’re unmarried, divorcing, or dissolving a civil partnership.

Our LGBT+ Family Law Services
Our solicitors are very experienced in this area, particularly in cases involving children law issues and complex financial matters.
We’ve been at the forefront of the campaign to improve the legal rights of LGBT+ people. Our family lawyers regularly write and lecture on this issue. We’ve also taken cases all the way to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
All Scottish cases will be handled by the Scottish law firm with which we are associated, Irwin Mitchell Scotland LLP. The law relating to funding is different in Scotland and you will receive separate advice about what that means as well as a separate funding agreement.
What Services Do We Offer?
Our solicitors can help you with:
- Divorce
- Dissolving a civil partnership
- Separating from a partner you’re not married to
- Financial settlement following relationship breakdown
- Negotiating future child arrangements and child maintenance payments.
Why choose us?
Our same sex divorce lawyers know what you’re going through. We understand how hard it might be to walk away from an institution like marriage, which you and your friends campaigned for.
We also understand how blunt the law can be in this area. The historic denial of legal status for same sex couples can create all kinds of problems when relationships break down.
Couples who haven’t married when they’d have liked to, because they weren’t allowed, may get different legal treatment to an equivalent heterosexual couple. It all depends on how formalised your relationship is.

Why Choose Us?
We’ve been at the forefront of the discussion to modernise the law. We regularly lecture and write on the legal issues facing the LGBT+ community. We also have experience taking test cases to the highest courts in England & Wales. We represented our client, Ms Roocroft , in landmark case at the Court of Appeal. This case confirmed that same sex couples have the same rights to financial disclosure on divorce/civil partnership dissolution.
Our lawyers specialise in cases involving:
High net worth individuals
Business owners
Executives
Professionals.
These cases will often involve considerable wealth, which may be split across several countries. We’re experts in this area and can draw on colleagues from other specialist areas to help, such as our Tax, Trusts & Estates team. If you have children, we can help negotiate contact arrangements and maintenance payments. We can help with this whether your children are with your spouse/civil partner, or from a previous relationship.
