Biography
I am a Senior Associate in the London office and have extensive experience and expertise in a full range of family law issues, including pre and post nuptial agreements, cohabitation disputes, marriage and civil partnerships, divorce, complex financial remedies on divorce, child arrangements and financial claims where the parents are unmarried. Many of my cases have an international element.
I focus on practical and constructive solutions to my clients’ issues. Where possible I help clients to resolve matters out of court, but I am equally comfortable guiding clients through the court process.
I am a Resolution accredited specialist in cohabitation law and complex financial provision on separation. I am also Chair of the London Region of Resolution, a community of family justice professionals with over 1,000 members, working to resolve family matters in a constructive way.
What inspired you to get into law?
At school, I was told that the law would be an ideal fit for my academic and practical skills. I was sceptical that it might not be the most thrilling career to pursue! However, once I was introduced to family law I was hooked on a job where people take centre stage, and I could immerse myself in the varied and complex stories clients share with me and formulate ongoing strategies to resolve matters.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
The legal world has minimal impact on the daily lives of most of my clients. Then, suddenly, the law intrudes at a time of high emotion, which can be confusing, frightening and a huge challenge. It is immensely rewarding to use my knowledge, expertise and empathy to make the process as simple and understandable as possible and to help clients work through such a difficult time to brighter skies ahead.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
It is a pleasure to work with so many people who share my passion for the law. The expertise and level of professionalism I have experienced since working at Irwin Mitchell is second to none. The supportive environment helps me to help my clients achieve their objectives and, when they need legal support in other areas of law, there are always specialists on hand that I have every confidence in to help.
What do you do away from the office?
I devour books, especially historical novels, and I have a keen interest in films, from silent movies to present-day effects laden blockbusters. I enjoy watching sport and have tried my hand at most things over the years (cricket, golf and rugby in the main), though now I mainly cheer on my son! Sailing is a lifelong passion and I have a Cornish Coble that I enjoy sailing on the South Coast and in Cornwall. I love being outdoors, enjoy gardening, and adore food – both cooking and eating!
