• Working with the UK arm of an international automotive manufacturer with no in-house legal function to put in place robust contracting processes. This included drafting and implementing internal contracting principles and negotiation guides and helping them to put together a “playbook” of standard positions, and (going forward) effectively acting as their in-house team.
• Drafting and negotiation of multi-year, multi-million-pound trading and hire agreements for a UK-leading supplier of plant hire equipment with its key customer and supplier. This involved extremely challenging and detailed negotiations over a very tight timeframe, including working alongside our Corporate team to simultaneously conclude an asset purchase agreement.
• Concluding a multi-year, multi-million-pound logistics and warehousing agreement on behalf of an international automotive manufacturer. This involved detailed and lengthy negotiations over several months to ensure a smooth transition from an existing supplier to the new service provider (including initially drafting and negotiating an interim agreement to allow services to be provided whilst finalising the main agreement).

• Negotiating multi-million-pound primary and secondary distribution agreements for a household name logistics provider with the UK’s biggest brewery. This included the original negotiations, two full renegotiations of both agreements together with multiple amendments and variations over the course of a decade. This was standout given the impact on the market and my client, but also the extent of negotiation required over many months (and years), and the constructive approach and leadership shown by my client’s MD who led the negotiation.
• Negotiating a multi-year variation and extension to a multi-million-pound tripartite IT/telecoms outsourcing for a household name IT/telecoms provider with a UK bank and a third-party supplier. This involved complex negotiations and drafting alongside finding a solution that was workable to all three parties involved over a very intensive period.

Independent recognition reflects the breadth of my expertise. The Legal 500, a directory rating top global lawyers, has noted: “Pete Maguire regularly handles contracts and outsourcing arrangements for a broad array of clients”.

I was also named Law Expert of the Year in the outsourcing, manufacturing, and technology sectors at the 2023 Lawyer Network Awards.

I am recognised as an expert in the defence sector, regularly being invited to attend events. For example, I was recently on the panel at the Defence Procurement Conference in Birmingham. I am also frequently invited to contribute to publications that specialise in the defence sector, such as Business Insider.
