Nia Jameson Irwin Mitchell

Biography

I am a Senior Associate within the Family Team based predominantly in North Yorkshire, but supporting clients across the North. I have over 12 years' experience in advising clients in relation to all areas of family law.

I specialise in dealing with complex financial matters following the breakdown of a relationship. I also advise in respect of Pre and Post Nuptial Agreements, Cohabitation and Separation Agreements, and where there are difficulties in agreeing arrangements for children.

I am currently involved in a complex financial dispute dealing with valuations of companies, pensions and property, alongside addressing the parties respective differing views on how the company should be run pending the resolution of all issues. There are also conduct arguments raised in the matter.

What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?

Working at IM allows us to benefit from the huge wealth of experience, knowledge and practice areas that the firm possesses. If we are faced with a specialist property or estate planning issue therefore, we have easy access to colleagues who can assist.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?

We are trusted to advise and support individuals going through a very difficult time, whether it is driven by them, or not. This is a privilege and knowing that we can help carve a way through what can appear extremely overwhelming at the outset, is most rewarding.

What inspired you to get into law?

After obtaining some experience in a family law department, I knew I wanted a role where I could support and advise someone going through a difficult time. I knew that the law would be challenging and rewarding, and give me the opportunity to work with people, so it was the natural choice for me.

What do you do away from the office?

I have 2 young children who have a busier social life than me! When not entertaining them, I like to run, try and keep fit, read and go to the theatre.

Memberships

I am a member of Resolution (a group committed to a constructive approach to family issues) and I am Treasurer of the Tees Valley Regional Resolution Committee.
