Biography
I'm a Court of Protection solicitor based in our Newcastle office.
I joined Irwin Mitchell in September 2023 specialising in the property and financial affairs aspect of the Court of Protection, which involves the management of Deputyships and Personal Injury Trusts.
I act for a range of clients, including children and adults, who lack the requisite capacity to manage their property and finances and require assistance in the management of their compensation awards as a result of a catastrophic accident or clinical negligence. I work closely and collaboratively with our personal injury departments and regularly liaise with case managers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure that our clients’ needs, and future goals are met.
My day-to-day role varies between assisting clients with daily expenditure and helping them budget, through to adapting properties to meet their needs. However, my focus is to always understand the client’s needs to ensure their best interests are at the heart of every decision.
What do you enjoy about working for Irwin Mitchell?
I feel exceptionally proud and privileged to have the opportunity to start and build my career as a Solicitor at Irwin Mitchell. It is a real honour to work with colleagues who are renowned experts in their fields.
Not only do Irwin Mitchell focus on ensuring that clients receive the best service, but they also focus on the wellbeing of their staff and giving back to our local communities.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
I think the most rewarding aspect is when your client achieves something with the support of the people around them. This could be something like achieving a therapy goal, going on a holiday or moving into their newly adapted home. I also love having the opportunity to build close relationships with clients and their families. Being able to share part of and support their journey to live as independently as possible is very rewarding.
What inspired you to get into law?
I always had an interest in law and wanted to learn about it whenever I could, but it was not a subject I could study at school. After my A-Levels, I was fortunate enough to be part of the first group of Solicitors in the Northeast to qualify through the 6-year Solicitor Apprenticeship scheme.
Having trained in many different areas of law during the six years, I knew that I wanted to practise and specialise in Court of Protection work. I am passionate about people being treated with dignity and respect and found that I could really make a difference in this area of law.
What do you do outside the office?
Away from the office, I enjoy exploring with my dog (Benny), reading, and rugby training. I am also currently training for the Great North Run in September... wish me luck!
