One of the most significant pieces of work in my career has been representing families affected by the Shrewsbury and Telford maternity scandal. Over a five-year period, I led a team that supported more than 100 families in investigating concerns about their maternity care and pursuing answers, accountability and justice.

At the time, the Independent Ockenden Review was the largest maternity review in NHS history. Many of the families I represented had experienced the devastating loss of a baby, avoidable injury to a mother, or serious harm arising from failures in maternity care.

The work was legally complex and helped shine a light on systemic failings in maternity services, but its true significance lay in the families themselves. It was a privilege to help parents have their voices heard and to support them in obtaining answers after years of uncertainty.

While the legal outcomes were important, what has stayed with me most are the families and the babies who were lost. Their stories continue to drive my commitment to improving patient safety and securing justice for those affected by avoidable medical harm.
