Biography
I’m a trainee solicitor in the Serious Injury team at Irwin Mitchell, based in Sheffield. I completed my Law LLB at The University of Leeds in 2017 and graduated from the University of Law with a Distinction in Legal Practice Course and LLM in Professional Legal Practice in 2018. I worked as a paralegal since 2018, and I joined Irwin Mitchell in February 2020.
I have experience working in a wide range of Serious Injury cases, including neurotrauma, orthopaedic injuries, and psychological injuries. I’ve also completed a seat within the Medical Negligence department, where I worked on cases involving high value birth injuries, delayed diagnosis of cancer and sepsis, and fatal cases.
What Inspired You To Get Into Law?
I have always been interested in the way that the law has an impact on every person’s life at some point, and so I decided to study it at university. During my undergraduate degree, I really enjoyed the Medical Law and Ethics module, and both my dissertation and LLM research project focused on Medical Law. I was accepted onto a Master programme in Medical Law and Ethics, and planned to pursue my PhD and a career in academia.
During the summer after I graduated from my undergraduate degree, I started working for Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, a charity based at Leeds General Infirmary. I realised then that I wanted to use my legal background to help people who are in a vulnerable position, so a career in Serious Injury Law seemed a great fit for me.
What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?
The most rewarding aspect of my role has to be sharing the client journey with them. I really enjoy building new relationships with clients and working closely with them to understand their needs and help them through a legal claim. Often clients come to us when they are in a difficult position, and the opportunity to help get a good settlement for them and help improve their quality of life following an accident is priceless for me.
What Do You Like About Working at Irwin Mitchell?
All of the teams that I’ve worked in during my traineeship at Irwin Mitchell have been extremely welcoming. I’ve been trusted with a lot of responsibility from an early stages of my career which has allowed me to gain a vast amount of experience and confidence. I’m looking forward to continuing my career at such a prestigious firm.
What Do You Do Away From The Office?
I am a keen music fan, so I can usually be found at a gig or browsing through record shops in my spare time. I am originally from Cumbria and I enjoy spending my free time fell walking in the Lake District and the Peak District.
I love travelling, having backpacked around Europe and Asia, and I spent a Summer working at a sanctuary for rescued working Elephants in Thailand.
