I am a Senior Associate Chartered Legal Executive and head of Family Law for Leeds, Middlesbrough, Newcastle & Glasgow, working out of Leeds and Sheffield.
I have a wealth of experience in family matters having been at Irwin Mitchell in the family team since 1995. I deal with all aspects of family law, which include:
- Cohabitation issues
- Financial matters arising from separation
- Children disputes, including acting for parents and grandparents
- Pre- and post-marital agreements
- Living together agreements
- Separation agreements
- Civil partnership disputes.
I regard myself as a strong negotiator and advocate whilst applying a sensible and cost-effective approach to my case load.
What Inspired You To Get Into Law?
I remember at school having to prepare a Will document in one of my lessons and completely messing it up. I remember my teacher tearing it up in frustration and saying I was hopeless and would never be a lawyer. I was determined to prove her wrong!
What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?
I really enjoy meeting people. I get great satisfaction in finding a solution to what might appear to be a hopeless problem.
All family cases are different and therefore each day of my working life is very different. My aim is always to ensure that a client leaves my office at the end of a case feeling they can move on with their life and it will be better than it was before they came into the office.
I do think the main qualifications you should have to be a good family lawyer are patience, empathy and common sense.
What Do You Like About Working At Irwin Mitchell?
It has to be the working environment. Not only do we have fantastic offices, but it's good to work alongside other specialist lawyers. I love working with a great team who are so talented and ambitious.
Dealing with family law issues, there is often a need to seek other specialist help in respect of property issues, company, tax, employment, and more. My clients don't need to employ experts outside the office - they are all here under one roof.
What Do You Do Away From The Office?
As a working mum, I am always very busy but I like to find time to go out socially with my family and friends for a drink and a meal. I have an amazing local pub and can often be found there at a weekend.
Like most women, I love shopping or a day at the spa and especially with my daughter. I love taking holidays in the sun to completely switch off from my busy life.
"I can't remember the last time we were all this happy. We are still celebrating and I have to keep pinching myself to make sure it isn't a dream!"
"I don't think I'll ever forget hearing the words 'and in awarding residency to Miss Rogers'."
“Thank you for everything that you have done for me over the last eighteen months. It has been a very trying time but throughout you have been efficient and compassionate. I felt I was in good hands from the first appointment with you and have felt confident along the way knowing that you had my interests at heart. You gave me great support when I needed it”.
“Thank you for your hard work and kindness and support throughout our settlement. Its greatly appreciated”.
"Thank you for everything. This difficult time has been a lot easier for me knowing you was dealing with everything."
