Biography
I am a Solicitor, specialising in Medical Negligence work, based in our Newcastle team. I have worked at Irwin Mitchell since 2018; initially as a paralegal and then I started my training contract in the summer of 2021. During my training contract, I worked in various other teams but ultimately felt I was best placed in the Medical Negligence team. I qualified in 2023.
Since joining Irwin Mitchell, I have experience of working on a broad range of negligence claims including;
- Delay in diagnosis of cancer
- Surgical negligence
- Birth injury
- Fatal claims
- Orthopaedic injuries
Ultimately, I strive to provide those who have been affected by sub-standard medical treatment with support whilst effectively managing their claims to get the best result.
What inspired you to get into law?
Growing up, I always strived to achieve the best possible results in my academic studies. I genuinely enjoyed most subjects, but I have always been an analytical thinker so studying law at university appeared to be a good fit. After achieving a 2.1 Law degree from Newcastle University, I wanted to put my degree to good use. I had years of experience with working with the public from my part time job and so I hoped to find a legal role that had an element of contact with individuals.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
Assisting clients with navigating a really difficult period in their life is the most rewarding aspect of my job. Ultimately, securing compensation for a client will help to reduce their worries and make their day-to-day life easier. However, whilst working towards the end goal, lots of questions are answered which really helps the client to process what has happened. I find that offering this information to clients can be really empowering for them.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
When I joined Irwin Mitchell in 2018, I felt incredibly well supported by my colleagues who had a wealth of experience in this area. Since then, my colleagues have always supported me to progress my career and enable me to learn new things every day to offer the best service to our clients.
Every day is different and I can genuinely say I learn something new every day.
What do you do away from the office?
You will usually find me out walking at the coast with my dog, Minnie, with a coffee in hand. I generally like to keep fit by running, swimming or cycling. I also have a love for nice food, whether that's hosting a dinner party for friends or eating out at my favourite restaurants.
