I am a Solicitor in the Tax, Trusts and Estates team in Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office. I qualified in 2019 and spent the first two years of my career at a boutique corporate firm where I specialised in advising high net worth individuals and family business owners on succession and inheritance tax planning. Since joining Irwin Mitchell I have expanded my practice, advising a broad range of clients including those who have been awarded significant personal injury settlements.
I prepare all types of Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney, as well as undertaking Trusts work. I also deal with probate matters and the administration of estates, including those with an international element.
What inspired you to get into law?
I knew from a young age I wanted to be a solicitor, despite not having any lawyers in the family. Having said that, as a child I thought lawyers spent their days arguing so past me would perhaps be surprised to have found herself working in a non-contentious area of the law.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
Without doubt the most rewarding aspect of my role is being able to assist bereaved clients during the most difficult time most of us will ever experience. Being able to take the burden from clients and reassuring them that they (and their loved one’s estates) are in safe hands makes even the most stressful day worthwhile.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
It’s a cliché but the people make a job and the Manchester TTE team are the very best. We have a breadth of experience between us so there is always someone to bounce ideas off and share some words of wisdom.
What do you do away from the office?
Outside of the office I am a keen foodie so can usually be found either in the kitchen or trying the never-ending list of Manchester’s new restaurant openings. Aside from that I love to travel (both in the UK and abroad) and the theatre.
"The solicitor managing the estate was friendly, easy to speak to and explained legal terms in a manner that could be easily understood by myself. If I telephoned and she wasn't available, I would receive a return call very quickly. E-mail's to her were also responded to quickly. The entire estate administration was tasked to Irwin Michell which meant my input at a stressful and difficult time was minimised. I would recommend this company." - 5* Trustpilot review
"I had a very positive experience with Fiona Bushell. She helped me write my Will and was very professional, knowledgeable and friendly and helpful. Thank you so much, I would definitely recommend Irwin Mitchell solicitors." - Ms G, Client (5* Trustpilot review)
"Extremely satisfied with the service we received from Fiona Bushell who handled our late son’s estate which was very complex and difficult due to his passing in another country and also being a permanent resident in Australia. Fiona corresponded with the two other solicitors involved and kept us fully informed of the progress. Our emails were answered very quickly with every thing being explained clearly. My wife and I were helped through a very sad time by a highly competent solicitor."- Mr S, Client (5* Trustpilot review)
"We recently used Irwin Mitchell to prepare an inheritance tax review and then prepare new wills for both of us... After initial contact the IHT report was prepared promptly and very professionally. Similarly our wills were developed over a 2/3 week period and we were very pleased with the results.
"I have given IM a five star rating because our Solicitor, Fiona Bushell was knowledgeable and extremely professional in the way that she carried out all our requirements. We both felt that we could totally trust the advice that she was providing and there was nothing negative in the way we were dealt with at all." - 5* Trustpilot review
