I am a paralegal in the Military Injury Team based in Southampton. I specialise in helping serving military personnel and veterans who are injured as a result of their service.
I mainly help those with their Armed Forces Compensation scheme claim. I help in a broad range of cases but in particular, PTSD claims where the results are often life-changing and these effects don't get enough recognition.
I attend events within the local military community and enjoy the opportunity to become involved and help where I can.
What inspired you to get into law?
My dad was my first inspiration to get into law. While he was a Detective in the Police, I would often hear stories about his work and how it helped change lives for families who were dealing with being a victim of crime.
I wanted to help people who needed it too. With an interest in the justice system and wanting a client-facing role, I felt that a career in law would allow me to make a real difference.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
The most rewarding aspect of my work has to be when you see how the results you achieve can or has changed a client's life.
It's so lovely that clients stay in touch after settlement and tell us how they’ve managed to get back to some normality after a life-changing incident. It's heart-warming to hear.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I feel fortunate to be able to work at Irwin Mitchell where there is a real family atmosphere among all teams and individuals.
Everyone's willing to help clients where and as much as they can.
I feel I have a great opportunity to learn from others who have such a depth of knowledge and are willing to support their colleagues grow in their own personal development.
What do you do away from the office?
Out of the office, I enjoy spending time with my black Labrador, Gemma, and Cavachon, Bonnie, taking them out for long walks in the local areas as well as spending time with my family.
