Biography
I am qualified social worker having completed a master’s in social work and a degree in psychology and social welfare at the University of Worcester. Upon becoming qualified I worked within the community and acute hospital team, the young adult’s team, looked after children’s team and later gaining a position within Worcester area city team as an adult’s social worker. These posts provided me with real insight into varied service user groups their needs and valuable experience of working within differing social work roles.
Having over 20 years of experience in providing high quality care and support to people who are socially excluded or who are experiencing problems in their lives, I am a natural reflector and keen to develop and learn. I have an excellent consistent track record of successful multiagency working with individuals, families, or groups, all within a variety of diverse settings, possessing a good understanding of relevant legislation, procedures and techniques required.
Prior to becoming a registered social worker, I gained a role within Shelter for many years in which I supported victims of domestic abuse and their families. These clients may have been in a refuge or fled from violence and abuse. I managed a multifaceted case load, with many families from ethnic minority backgrounds and had substance misuse issues, mental health issues and needed support with housing. Many faced barriers of language and accessing community resources due to deprivation and oppression. Within this role I advocated families to live in a safe, independent environment which in turn promoted autonomy and empowerment. Accessing hard to reach communities is challenging, but extremely rewarding and often led to high levels of positive outcomes for families.
