Sarah Al-Jourani Appointed As Vice Chair For American Bar Association’s International Family Law Committee

Prominent international family lawyer Sarah Al-Jourani has been appointed as a Vice Chair of the International Family Committee for the International Law Section of the American Bar Association (ABA).

The International Law Section is a gateway between international legal practitioners in the U.S. and around the globe for networking and collaboration.

Fluent Arabic speaking Sarah is a member of both Irwin Mitchell’s International and Religious and Cultural Teams of Excellence. She deals with all aspects of family law including divorce, financial settlements and child arrangements and specialises in international and Sharia family law matters.

She has a particular expertise in Islamic marriages and divorces, including the cultural aspects within Arab and Asian communities. Sarah’s personal understanding allows her to provide clients with holistic support throughout proceedings and to consider things such as conditions within a Nikkah, mehr, wedding gold and child arrangements for Ramadan, Eid and other religious holidays.

The International Family Law Committee focuses on international family law, including jurisdictional and applicable law that recognizes divorce, maintenance, and matrimonial property regimes. It covers international pre-nuptial agreements and the efficiency of financial terms and clauses on jurisdiction and applicable law. The committee specialises in child abduction, all child-related matters such as parental authority internationally, enforcing visitation rights, and adoption contested paternity.
