FDA warning over De Witt bowel cleansing drug
In May 2006 the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a safety alert regarding the use of Fleet Phospho-Soda solutions and other Oral Sodium Phosphates (OSP).
Recent studies have indicated that a rare, but serious form of kidney failure has been associated with the use of Fleet Phospho-Soda. So far, there have been at least 21 documented cases of patients suffering from acute phosphate nephropathy and acute renal failure. Information provided with the product does not indicate kidney failure as a potential side effect.
Fleet phospho-soda is a sodium phosphate oral solution for bowel cleansing and is manufactured by De Witt based in Cheshire.
