Fire Safety Issues Put Nearly A Quarter Of A Million At Risk
Thousands of Vauxhall Zafiras are to be recalled for the second time in six months over a problem that has seen the cars burst into flames.Expert product liability lawyers at Irwin Mitchell are concerned by the recall and have urged the car manufacture to conduct a thorough investigation into the latest issues.
In December, Vauxhall wrote to all 234,938 Zafira B owners regarding the initial problem in which improper repairs of the blower motor resistor and its thermal fuse could lead to overheating of the system's electrical components and the potential for a fire.
Figures from the London Fire Brigade show that so far this year firefighters have attended 14 Vauxhall Zafira car fires.
Announcing the new recall, a spokesman for Vauxhall said: "While the current action achieves the objective of returning vehicles to their original condition, after extensive investigations we have decided to go further and improve the overall robustness of the system.”
As a result, Zafira owners are being urged to contact their local Vauxhall authorised repairer to arrange a free safety inspection.
Kevin Timms, an expert product liability solicitor at Irwin Mitchell, is worried by the large number of recalls in the car industry and feels this latest recall cannot be taken lightly.
