Call For Former Colleagues To Provide Information On Projects Across UK
The widow of a former surveyor who died after developing an asbestos-related cancer has joined with specialist lawyers to call on former colleagues who worked with him across the UK to come forward and help her gain answers regarding his death.
Alan Bowrah, who was born in Brighton but lived in Ruislip, Middlesex at the time of his death, passed away aged 72 in March 2012, around six months after being diagnosed with mesothelioma, the cancer of the lining of the lung commonly associated with asbestos exposure decades ago.
His widow Pamela, who was married to Alan for close to 50 years, instructed legal experts from Irwin Mitchell’s specialist Asbestos-Related Disease team to investigate his exposure to asbestos and to access vital financial support.
As part of their investigations, the lawyers are keen to hear from anyone who worked with Alan during his employment with Bovis between 1961 and 2002, where he worked initially as an estimator before taking up a role as a surveyor.
Alan’s work took him across the UK and the legal experts would like to speak to anyone with information regarding building projects across London, as well as in Bedford, the Midlands, Yeovil and even in Scotland*. Alan worked on many refurbishments and construction projects including the Pittards factory in Yeovil, various Tesco stores, the Trident Centre in Dudley, housing estate in Elthorne Road, Islington, the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, Earls Court and Olympia.
Throughout his employment with Bovis, Alan was required to visit demolition sites while asbestos tiles, sheeting and ceilings were being pulled down and sites were being prepared for new building work.
Expert Opinion
This tragic case is like so many which we are contacted about every day, with the devastating consequences of asbestos exposure only coming to light many years after the victim is believed to have come into contact with the material.
We are investigating Alan’s work history to find out more about how he was exposed to this deadly material. At the time he was working employers knew about the dangers of asbestos and he should have been provided with the necessary protective clothing. Sadly so many people at that time were let down and they and their families are now suffering the consequences.
As part of our work, we would grateful to hear from anyone who may have details regarding some of the many projects which Alan was involved in across his four decades working for Bovis. Joanne Jefferies - Partner
Pamela Bowrah recalls: “While it is three years since Alan passed away, the entire family still misses him every day.
“It was incredibly difficult to see how his health deteriorated after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma and all we want to know is how he came to develop this absolutely terrible illness.
“If anyone has any information which could help us, we would hugely appreciate hearing from them.”
