Expert Military Injuries Lawyers Hold Specialist Events To Support Charities
As part of our support for National Armed Forces Day (Saturday 27 June) Irwin Mitchell has been holding special events across its offices to raise awareness of the work our troops carry out as well as raise funds for a number of charities.
The flagship event was a private screening of the BAFTA nominated Kajaki film at The University of Bath. The film is based on real life events in Afghanistan which involved soldiers and families who became clients of our specialist Military Injuries team.
The Bath event was attended by 130 guests including Kajaki producer, Andrew de Lotbiniere, writer, Tom William, actor, Ben O’Mahony, our military client Stu Pearson.
Michael Knott a Partner in the Court of Protection team and Geraldine McCool, head of the Military Injuries team at Irwin Mitchell hosted the event which was also attended by members of the sporting community including compare for the evening, former England rugby player, Lee Mears and Olympian, Amy Williams.
An auction raised £2,000 for the charities supported by the film including: Help for Heroes, Walking with the Wounded, Royal British Legion and The Hashemite Commission for Disabled Soldiers. Other fundraising events across Irwin Mitchell’s 11 office locations will also top up the total raised.
Irwin Mitchell also helped raise funds for the Desert Heroes appeal supported by The Sun newspaper to create a memorial for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
Expert Opinion
“Armed Forces Day is a time when we gather together as a country to honour the courage of our troops and show our support for the work they carry out.
“We have been delighted to show the Kajaki film across all of our offices as part of our Armed Forces Day support and the auction event in Bath was a massive success raising thousands for charities which support injured soldiers.
“The Kajaki film shows the true horror and danger that many soldiers face in warzones and we see on a daily basis the impact that military injuries can have on people’s lives. It is important that our injured troops are given the support, rehabilitation and advice they need to be able to get their lives back on track, particularly those which are unable to continue in the armed forces.
“I hope the whole country joins us in taking time this weekend to remember the sacrifice our armed forces personnel make to help keep us safe.” Geraldine McCool - Consultant
