Specialist Medical Negligence Lawyers Show Their Support To Flamingo Foundation
South West law firm Irwin Mitchell are sponsoring a unique styling workshop for young people in the region with a Bristol based fashion consultant to help build their confidence and self-esteem.
The session will be held at Kingsweston School in Bristol on Tuesday 23rd June as part of the ‘Find My Style’ project. During the workshop young adults with disabilities have the chance to work with a fashion stylist and image consultant, to explore their own sense of style and build their confidence.
Kingsweston School is a specialist school primarily serving pupils in the Bristol area with a wide range of needs, including Asperger’s and Autism, Severe Learning Disabilities and complex needs.
The ‘Find My Style’ project helps make fashion accessible to young people with a range of mental and physical disabilities. The project was launched in London last year by Bristol based charity, the Flamingo Foundation, a charity which aims to empower vulnerable people and create stronger communities.
During the session at Kingsweston School, 17 students aged between 16 and 19 will have the chance to create style boards expressing their personal fashion tastes.
Fashion stylist Samantha Williams, joined by seamstress Lisa Collins, will also showcase to the group the key styles and trends for the upcoming season and how this can be adapted to suit individual needs and body shapes.
Samantha Williams, Fashion Stylist and mum to four-year-old Florence, who has a rare chromosome disorder said: “Image and confidence in what we wear can make a huge difference, but young people with disabilities can feel removed from the fashion scene and find it difficult to find on-trend clothes that suit their style, their bodies and their needs.
“This project is a fantastic way to open up the world of fashion and demonstrate that everyone can find or adapt clothes to show off their individuality.”
Katherine Sparkes, Founder of the Flamingo Foundation, said: “Find My Style gives young people with disabilities the same opportunities as their mainstream peers and helps build body confidence and make fashion accessible. We’re very grateful for Irwin Mitchell’s support and sponsorship which is enabling us to put on more of these sessions together in the Bristol area.”
