Irwin Mitchell Supports Event At Rapanui Clothes Store Which Gives Headway Members New Opportunities
A special event to provide new experiences and opportunities for people suffering from head and brain injuries has seen members of Headway Isle of Wight being able to design and create their own T-Shirts at a local clothes shop.
Headway IOW supports people who have survived a brain injury, their families and carers and has arranged a project for a group of members to attend offices of ethical clothing store Rapanui to learn how to select and design a motif for either a t-shirt or a tote bag using modern technology.
With support from the Rapanui team they designed and then printed each before transferring them onto the clothes. The project was supported with grants from law firm Irwin Mitchell’s Southampton office which helps people who have suffered serious head and brain injuries to get access to the specialist rehabilitation they need to help with their recovery.
Rebecca Brown, a lawyer at Irwin Mitchell’s south coast base who attended the event, said: “People with head and brain injuries often have ‘hidden’ disabilities and it can be difficult for others with no experience of working with them to understand how it affects both them and their families.
“At Irwin Mitchell we are pleased to support projects like this as they help to raise awareness of the challenges people with brain injuries face and gives head injury sufferers an opportunity to experience something that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to do.”
Joy Cleightonhills, Chairman, Headway, Isle of Wight, said: “This is a joint process for our members to get involved in making and designing t-shirts and give them an activity they can learn from and enjoy. As well as enriching our members lives, it also helps the store’s staff to understand the challenges that brain injured people face and how, with guidance, they can achieve their goals.”
