Former ‘Dragon’ Calls On Employment Firms To Take Business To Next Level
High profile entrepreneur and former Dragon’s Den star, James Caan, was the keynote speaker at an event hosted by Irwin Mitchell and organised by specialist venture capital fund Recruitment Entrepreneur.
Held at the national law firm’s London office on 8 October, the event focused on helping owners of recruitment agencies take their business to the next level, rather than running them as a lifestyle business.
Commenting on the event, Padma Tadi, an Employment Solicitor at Irwin Mitchell, said:
Expert Opinion

“James and his team at Recruitment Entrepreneur is clearly passionate about helping businesses realise their strengths so that they can drive on to the next level. The recruitment market has huge potential for growth as the economic picture improves and I hope the evening provided some valuable tips, insight and inspiration so that companies working in the sector can take advantage.”

James, who is one of the UK’s eminent entrepreneurs, is an expert at building, running and scaling businesses. His first recruitment company, Alexander Mann, has sold three times, most recently in 2013 for £260 million. Recruitment Entrepreneur is his venture capital fund which invests exclusively in the recruitment and staffing sector.
Earlier this year, James Caan endorsed an innovative new course designed for individuals who are interested in starting or developing a career in HR.
The course, which Irwin Mitchell delivers alongside the Institute of Recruiters (IOR), offers a new Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Human Resource Practice.
Those that complete the seven month course will gain an internationally recognised HR qualification which is regulated by OfQual.
Speaking at the launch of the course, James Caan said:
“If you’re looking for a HR role to provide a substantial return on investment, you have to get the recruitment aspect spot on. Businesses will only grow if they have talented and ambitious people constantly coming on board. This new HR Qualification will equip professionals in recruiting, retaining and supporting staff, and I fully support the IOR in bringing this qualification to the market.”
